The Nujaba Movement, an Iraqi Shi’ite militia handled by the Iranian Qods Force, carried out a display of propaganda in the Gaza Strip aimed at glorifying Iran

Overview

The Nujaba Movement (Movement of the Noble Ones), an Iraqi Shi’ite militia handled by the Iranian Qods Force, recently carried out a display of propaganda in the Gaza Strip. Its objective was to glorify Iran and Iranian support for the Palestinians and the “resistance axis.”

  • About a month after the distribution of funds to the families of prisoners and shaheeds,[1] operatives of the Nujaba Movement launched balloons into Israel with pictures of the commander of the Iranian Qods Force and of other high-ranking shaheeds from the terrorist organizations and the Shi’ite militias operating under Iranian aegis. The pictures were of Qassem Soleimani (Qods Force), Imad Mughnieh (Hezbollah), Abu Mahdi al-Muhandas (the Iraqi Popular Mobilization), Bahaa Abu al-Atta (the Palestinian Islamic Jihad) and Ahmed al-Jaabari (Hamas).
  • The Nujaba Movement said the balloons were launched in response to the declaration by Israel (“the Zionist entity”) of its intention to annex Palestinian territories. According to the Nujaba Movement’s announcement, the balloons were launched to stress the path of the shaheeds of the “resistance” until the “liberation of Jerusalem,” and to signal a warning to Israel (website of the Nujaba Centre for Communications and Media Affairs in Iran, June 6, 2020).

  • On May 21, 2020, the ITIC issued a bulletin about the Nujaba Movement’s activities in Gaza, including the existence of a Movement bureau. The bulletin triggered a reaction from the Nujaba Centre for Communications and Media Affairs in Iran, which quoted it extensively and included pictures from the bulletin. According to the Centre, the bulletin indicated Israel’s great sensitivity to the activities of the Nujaba Movement in the Gaza Strip (see the Appendix).

The Nujaba Movement’s reaction to the ITIC bulletin about its activity in the Gaza Strip
  • The website of the Nujaba Centre for Communications and Media Affairs in Iran recently issued a reaction to the ITIC’s bulletin on the Movement’s activities in the Gaza Strip. The reaction was published in three languages, Arabic, Persian and English (website of the Nujaba Centre for Communications and Media Affairs, May 30, 2020).
  • The headline of the reaction claimed the bulletin reflected “the Zionists’ ” great sensitivity to the activities of the Nujaba Movement in Gaza. That was followed by a short synopsis and two pictures from the ITIC bulletin, one of an aid package distributed by the Movement, and the other of a meeting held by Movement operatives in Gaza, with the caption, “America, the Great Satan. The American role in dealing with the resistance axis and Israel’s expansionist policy.” According to the commentary of the Nujaba Centre for Communications and Media Affairs, the objective of the ITIC bulletin was to warn Israel’s political and security leadership [about the activities of the Nujaba Movement in Gaza].
