Hezbollah’s coping with COVID-19: A test case of the conduct of the mini-state established by Hezbollah in Lebanon

According to data of the Lebanese Health Ministry (updated to March 30, 2020), there were 446 COVID-19 cases in Lebanon. The first two cases were two women who came back from a trip of 70 mothers of Hezbollah’s shaheeds that took place in Iran. Eleven of the patients died. Morbidity among the Shiite population in Lebanon was relatively low, possibly due to the high percentage of young people in Shiite society.

The Palestinian Authority and Hamas Fight COVID-19: the First Month Overview and Initial Insights

The objective of this study is to present an overview and initial insights regarding the preventive measures taken by the Palestinian Authority (PA) and Hamas to check the spread of COVID-19 during the first month of its outbreak. It examines the spread of contagion, the behavior of the PA and Hamas, and the potential threats for Israel if the disease spreads unchecked. This overview and insights are based on methodical observations carried out by ITIC researchers once the first cases of COVID-19 were discovered in Judea, Samaria and in the Gaza Strip.

Hamas’s fight against COVID-19 in the Gaza Strip (updated to April 5, 2020)

On March 31, 2020, two new COVID-19 cases were identified among people returning from Egypt to the Gaza Strip through the Rafah crossing. They were quarantined. This brings the number of patients in the Gaza Strip to 12. According to the spokesman for the Health Ministry in the Gaza Strip, five patients have already recovered and the condition of the rest is “stable and encouraging” (Al-Ra’i News Agency, April 4, 2020).

Rate of the Spread of COVID-19 Cases in the Palestinian Authority (PA): Update

As of the morning of April 2, 2020, there were 143 cases of COVID-19 in Judea and Samaria. In ITIC assessment the real number may be far higher, because it can be assumed that in the absence of broad-scale, methodical testing there are many COVID-19 patients who have not been reported. So far 18 patients have recovered and one woman has died. The data presented below are for the most part based on the daily reports posted by Ibrahim Melhem, spokesman for the PA government, to his Twitter account. The following graph shows the spread of COVID-19 between March 5 and April 2, 2020.
