Palestinian Reactions to Measures Taken by the Israeli Government Against the Palestinian Authority

Israel's Political and Security Cabinet decided on a series of steps to counter the PA's proposal to request an advisory legal opinion from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) regarding the "Israel's ongoing violations of the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination," and to examine how Israel's "continuing occupation" in Judea and Samaria influenced the legal status of the occupied territory and possible consequences of the "occupation" on international relations towards Israel. The Cabinet's decision led to strong Palestinian protests and condemnations.

Palestinian public opinion poll reveals increase in support for armed terrorist attacks against Israel and attacks inside Israeli territory.

On December 13, 2022, Dr. Khalil Shqaqi's Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research (PCPSR) issued its public opinion-poll report for the last quarter of the year. According to the results, the Palestinian public's support for an "armed struggle" against increased in comparison to the third quarter, especially in Judea and Samaria.. A number of possible reasons were given for the results, among them the formation of the new government in Israel, the escalating military clashes, and number of Palestinian casualties in clashes with Israeli security forces.

Third ISIS attack in 2022 in the vicinity of the Suez Canal

On December 30, 2022, ISIS operatives attacked an Egyptian police checkpoint in the city of Ismailia in Egypt. Three policemen and a civilian were killed and 11 policemen were wounded. This is the third ISIS attack in the past year in the Suez Canal area and the first in three years on the western side of the canal. The incidents during the past year testify to the effort that ISIS is making to expand its activity in Egypt to new areas. It should be noted that the Suez Canal is a strategic region importance for world trade in general and for the Egyptian economy in particular

Kata’ib Hezbollah: A Dominant Iraqi Pro-Iranian Militia

Kata’ib Hezbollah (Hezbollah Brigades) is one of the most dominant pro-Iranian militias operating in Iraq. The militia was established in March 2003 as a result of a union between several pro-Iranian groups following the US invasion of Iraq. The Palestinian Authority has accused Israel of killing a soccer player, actually a Hamas terrorist operative who clashed with the IDF in Nablus

On the night of December 21, 2022, Israeli worshippers entered the precinct of the Tomb of Joseph in Nablus, secured by IDF forces. Several dozen armed Palestinians rioted, throwing IEDs at the forces and shooting at them. The Palestinian media reported the death of Ahmed 'Atef Mustafa Daraghmeh The report noted he was a soccer player who had played with Thaqafi Tulkarm. Daraghmeh was a Hamas operative. Senior figures in the PA called on the international community, including FIFA, to condemn and punish Israel. Needless to say, no one in the PA mentioned that he was a Hamas operative who deliberately went to Nablus to clash with Israeli security forces.
