The Spread of Covid-19 in Gaza Strip, Judea and Samaria (Updated to November 9, 2020)

The situation in the Gaza Strip: This past week the sharp rise in the number of active Covid-19 cases in the Gaza Strip continued with 1,738 new cases (approximately 250 new cases per day). As of November 9, 2020, the number stood at 3,014, up from 2,549 last week. The situation in Judea and Samaria: This past week the number of active Covid-19 cases in Judea and Samaria rose again, with 2,358 new cases. As of November 8, 2020, there were 4,281 active cases, down from 4,315 a week ago. The number of deaths stands at 477, up from 455 a week ago. Weddings remain one of the main venues for spreading the virus.

A shooting attack against an IDF force near Nablus ended with the death of the shooter. The Palestinian foreign ministry issued a false report, representing the killing as a “barbaric execution” (a familiar PA response to Palestinian popular terrorism events).

On November 4, 2020, a Palestinian armed with a hand gun drove to a roadblock near Hawwara (south of Nablus) and opened fire at IDF soldiers manning the site. The soldiers identified the threat, took cover and returned fire, killing the shooter. No IDF casualties were reported (IDF spokesman, November 4, 2020).

Shooting attack carried out by an ISIS supporter in Vienna (initial overview)

On the evening of November 2, 2020, a shooting attack was carried out against passersby in the Vienna city center by a young ISIS supporter. Four people were killed and over 20 were wounded. ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack. In the ITIC's assessment, this was not an ISIS, preplanned and orchestrated attack, but a local initiative. However, the perpetrator may have had accomplices in Austria or even outside the country.

As of November 3, 2020, the number stood at 2,647, up from 2,080 on October 27, 2020. The situation in Judea and Samaria: This past week the number of active Covid-19 cases in Judea and Samaria rose, with 2,330 new cases. As of November 1, 2020, there were 4,415 active cases, up from 4,389 a week ago. The number of deaths stands at 455, up from 417 a week ago. Analysis of the new statement of ISIS spokesman following the normalization agreements between Israel, the UAE and Bahrain

On October 18, 2020, ISIS’s Al-Furqan Media Foundation released an audiotape of the organization’s spokesman Abu Hamza Al-Qurashi. The title of the tape is a verse from the Quran – “So narrate to them stories of the past, so perhaps they will reflect ”. In the 32-minute tape, the spokesman calls for the overthrow of the “tyrannical” rulers in Arab countries, following the normalization agreements between Israel, the UAE and Bahrain.

The Spread of Covid-19 in Gaza Strip, Judea and Samaria (Updated to October 26, 2020)

The situation in the Gaza Strip: This past week the number of active Covid-19 cases in the Gaza Strip continued to rise, and as of October 25, 2020, stood at 2,080, with 872 new cases. The situation in Judea and Samaria: The curve in Judea and Samaria continues flattening, but the number of active remains high and stood at 4,389 on October 25, 2020. This past week 2,510 new cases were detected. There are 41 patients in ICUs, eight on ventilators. Actually, the number of active cases is far larger than what is reported but they have not been detected because of the low number of tests.
