Spotlight on Global Jihad (August 4-10, 2021)


This week, there was an increase in the scope of ISIS activity around the globe. The epicenter of ISIS activity was Afghanistan. In The Sinai Peninsula: The Egyptian army and the Sinai Tribal Union carried out searches in the central Sinai Peninsula, killing four ISIS operatives and capturing others. In Syria: ISIS attacked Syrian soldiers and fighters of the forces supporting it in the desert region after several weeks of inactivity in the region.

Spotlight on Global Jihad (July 28 – August 3, 2022)

The main event of the week was the killing of Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri by the US in Afghanistan.This week there was a decline in the scope of ISIS’s activity around the globe. Most of the activity was concentrated in Africa. Ethiopia: An attack by the Al-Qaeda-affiliated Al-Shabaab organization near the border with Somalia. Over 100 Al-Shabaab operatives were killed.

Spotlight on Global Jihad (July 21-27, 2022)

This week has witnessed an increase in ISIS’s activity in Syria and Iraq and a decrease in its activity in West Africa and Afghanistan. A report published by the United Nations states that Al-Qaeda will position itself in the long term as the most prominent terrorist organization in the world In the Sinai Peninsula: There has been an increase in ISIS’s activity against the Egyptian security forces. In Africa 14 policemen and three civilians were killed in an attack carried out by the Al-Shabaab organization in southern Ethiopia.

Spotlight on Iran (July 7, 2022 – July 21, 2022)

On July 19, the presidents of Iran, Russia and Turkey held a summit in Tehran as part of the Astana Talks process concerning the settlement of the war in Syria. On July 10, Iranian President Raisi spoke on the phone with the Syrian President al-Assad and called for the implementation of agreements signed by both countries during the recent visit of the Syrian president to Tehran in May.Iraqi sources reported that the Commander of the Qods Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), Esmail Qa’ani, visited northern Iraq in early July, and met with representatives of the two major Kurdish parties to mediate between them and solve the disagreement between them concerning the nomination of the next Iraqi president.

Spotlight on Global Jihad (July 14-20, 2022)

There was a decline in the scope of ISIS’s activity around the globe this week. Africa continued to be the epicenter of its activity. In Sinai Peninsula Six ISIS operatives were killed in a joint operation by the Egyptian army and the Sinai Tribal Union. Africa: ISIS continued its attacks against military and villages in the north of the country. Following US President Joe Biden’s visit to Israel and Saudi Arabia, ISIS’s Al-Naba weekly published statements made previously by ISIS Spokesman Abu Umar al-Muhajir, attacking Arab countries for signing agreements with Israel.

Spotlight on Global Jihad (July 7-13, 2022)

According to an Iraqi security source, a new ISIS leader (khalifah) has been appointed. In Syria, US forces carried out a targeted killing of ISIS’s commander in Syria and his deputy, near the Syrian-Turkish border. In Nigeria, ISIS operatives broke into Kuje Prison southwest of the capital Abuja, liberating hundreds of inmates.
