News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (December 20 –26, 2017)

This past week riots and demonstrations continued following Trump's declaration and the emergency vote held in the UN General Assembly. This past week rocket fire from the Gaza Strip stopped, while in Judea and Samaria there was an attempted stabbing attack. In the international arena, the Palestinians perceived the vote in the UN as a great achievement. They intend to continue intense political activity, including joining international organizations and an appeal to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague.

Spotlight on Global Jihad (December 14-20, 2017)

Following President Putin’s announcement about the removal of a “substantial portion” of the Russian forces in Syria, the evacuation process began this week. In the campaign for the takeover of Idlib, battles continued between the Syrian forces and the Headquarters for the Liberation of Al-Sham in the area northeast of Hama. Abroad, ISIS’s terrorist campaign continued, with noteworthy attacks in the Khorasan Province (Afghanistan/Pakistan).

News of Terrorism and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (December 13-19, 2017)

It is approximately two weeks since the Trump recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel, and demonstrations of rage continue in the Palestinian arena, although with less intensity than what some of the Palestinians hoped for. Demonstrations and protest meetings continue in the Arab and Muslim states, especially Jordan and Turkey (where last week a meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation was held).

Russian President Vladimir Putin made a surprise visit to Syria. The Syrians (and the Russians) announced that the mopping up of the Euphrates Valley in the area between Al-Mayadeen and Albukamal had been completed. In the heart of Manhattan, an amateurishly prepared IED exploded on the body of a Bangladeshi immigrant terrorist.

ISIS-Inspired Immigrant from Bangladesh Detonates IED in the Heart of New York City

At around 7:10 on the morning of December 11, 2017, an IED was detonated in the subway corridor connecting the Port Authority Bus Terminal to the Times Square subway station. The homemade pipe bomb exploded while strapped onto the terrorist's body. He was seriously wounded; three passersby sustained minor injuries. The terrorist was arrested.

Spotlight on Iran (November 26 – December 10, 2017)

Iran avoided issuing any official reaction to the strikes on the Iranian base in the area of the village of al-Kiswah. Israeli sources reported that the October 2017 visit of the chief of staff of the Iranian Armed Forces to Syria was unsuccessful. In Iraq too, Iran is acting to cement its influence in the era following the collapse of the Islamic State. Iran cast the blame on Saudi Arabia for the collapse of the alliance between the Houthi rebels in Yemen and former Yemeni President, Ali Abdullah Saleh, who was killed last week by the Houthis. Iran condemned the decision made by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, to declare Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, and called for a resumption of the armed struggle against Israel .
