This week as well, the events in Syria centered around the areas of Idlib and Deir ez-Zor: A noteworthy event at the propaganda level is an audiotape released by ISIS and attributed to its leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. The calls by Al-Baghdadi and ISIS’s propaganda machine to intensify the attacks abroad are apparently being heeded.

The Islamic State is disintegrating in Syria and Iraq. Its territorial areas of control Iraq are falling to the two anti-ISIS coalition forces one after another, although in some important strongholds ISIS operatives continue stubborn fighting.

Spotlight on Global Jihad (14-18 September 2017)

Syrian forces are deepening their grip on the Deir ez-Zor region in an effort to encircle the ISIS operatives in the city and sever their logistic supply channels. In talks held in Astana between Russia, Turkey, and Iran another agreement on de-escalation was reached for the Idlib area. This week an IED was detonated on a passenger train in west London.

A Hamas-affiliated Palestinian in Britain admitted the flotilla project to the Gaza Strip was not intended to “break the siege” and bring humanitarian aid, but rather to promote the battle for hearts and minds against Israel.

Zaher Birawi is a Palestinian activist who lives in Britain affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas. He has extensive experience in dispatching flotillas from Europe to the Gaza Strip with the stated aim of "breaking the siege" of the Gaza Strip.

Spotlight on Global Jihad (August 31 – September 6 2017)

ISIS continues its string of setbacks: In Syria - the SDF announced they had completed the capture of the Old City of Al-Raqqah. On 2 September 2017 the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the Syrian forces, supported by the Russian air force, completed the capture of Uqayribat. In Iraq, Iraqi Premier Haider al-Abadi announced that Iraqi forces have completed the capture of Tal Afar, ISIS’s last stronghold in northern Iraq. The international coalition fighting ISIS has been preventing, through air strikes, the transit of hundreds of ISIS operatives and their families from the Qalamoun area to eastern Syria.

European countries freeze donations to anti-Israel women’s organization after learning it supported the establishment of a women’s center named after Palestinian terrorist Dalal al-Mughrabi

On August 21, 2017, the governments of Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark and the Netherlands announced they would immediately stop their joint funding of the Women's Affairs Technical Committee (WATC). In addition, according to the announcement, they would initiate an investigation to discover how the funds they had contributed were used.
