After two months of preparations, on March 30, 2018 (Land Day) events of the “Great Return March” began. So far there has been a pattern of mass demonstrations, especially in Fridays. The demonstrations are held at between five and eight focal points along the border. At the front lines are young men, among them operatives from Hamas and the other terrorist organizations, who incite violent provocations against the IDF, using the demonstrators as human shields.
The riots, accompanied by attempted terrorist attacks near the fence, are expected to continue at least until on or about May 15, 2018 (Nakba Day). At that time events are expected to peak and in ITIC assessment there may be a mass march towards Israeli territory and increased military provocations.
